Social Groups

Mark R. Hammond Associates offers Social Groups for children with social communication and pragmatic language needs.

A social group is a group of age-matched children learning about social language and pragmatic skills while interacting under the intervention of a Speech-Language Pathologist.

Our social groups follow a curriculum that is tailored to the needs of the group participants based on client interest, client age, and skill level. Past social group topics have included:

  • Understanding/using nonverbal communication (e.g., facial expressions, gestures)
  • Recognizing and managing emotions
  • Making & keeping friends
  • Joining groups in play
  • Being part of a group
  • Big problems vs. little problems
  • Privacy circles
